First Steps!
Yeah! David took his first steps this morning. There was no bribe involved, no warmup, and it was a good surprise -- in fact there were about five of them from the recliner to the toy box. And he wasn't wearing shoes -- just socks!

Chopsticks please
On Sunday David practiced using his trainer chopsticks -- they have cute little bunnies on the end. I made sticky rice with stir fry and he really liked it. Just like using silverware, he prefers if someone will load up the chopsticks with food, then he will put it in his mouth...or drop it on the floor when he's full. Hooray for Holly who is always available to serve as vacuum cleaner!

A good Saturday
David's been doing art projects at day care, so I got out the crayons for him tonight to see what he could do. He's not so interested in coloring on paper as he is in attempting to taste the crayon. But he was able to scribble some "ketchup" on the omelet on the paper. Tasting crayons must be a "boy" thing. :-)
We both had haircuts today and David actually took a two and a half hour nap. That was amazing!

Another week goes by
Sorry, no picture this week. We've just been too busy. David is doing well -- his ears are clearing up and he appears to be hearing whispering lately--day care shared this. I usually don't whisper --it's more like, No! Don't do that! He's still growing. This week he seems to be stretching in length, or at least his pants don't seem as long. I'm still trying to find more soy items to take the place of dairy; we gave up on the goat for now. It made a little difference to his tummy but is much more expensive than soy. David likes the original Silk milk and we found a local store that carries their brand of yogurt, and soy just agrees with him better.
This week I caught him getting on a riding toy by himself. He was pretty confident and hiked his leg over one side and sat down. (I about had a small coronary as I could imagine he was going to fall off or over, but thankfully he didn't.) Day care didn't think he'd learned it there, so I think he was just determined to get on by himself. I also caught him pointing out the nose on his "cat" humidifier, then pointing at his own nose on Thursday.

Hmm...fresh cookies!
Yum! Homemade snickerdoodles make a Monday much better! David is feeling better this week. He's had an ear infection and an intestinal virus the last couple of weeks. Between the two of us, one of us was at a doctor's office five times in two weeks. David weighs 20 lbs., 9 oz. now and Mom is really looking forward to him walking on his own! He will stand in the middle of the room by himself and cruises around furniture, but crawling is still the fastest way to get somewhere. This has been a tough few days for Holly -- she's realized that David came with a no return policy and she's acted out a couple of times. But this too will pass, and hopefully soon!

Rats, I think I'm stuck
Let me first preface this post with this -- honestly, David did this to himself. He figured out how to crawl under the stool first, which wasn't a big deal. But when you try it later a second time, and decide to stand up in the middle of the process, that's a problem. I was on the other side of the wall in the kitchen and heard crying and at first, couldn't find him. But then David increased the volume and there was little doubt for his location. He wasn't real interested in me showing him how to kneel down and the crawl out but rather wanted out NOW!

Just how does it work?
This week has been a busy one for David. He cut tooth number five and is working on number six. Tonight he learned how to throw a kiss and that was cute and funny. In the photos David is figuring out exactly how the balls get from one location to another with the hippo popper. I'm not sure if this is a good sign or not, but if he feels the need to take more than his toys apart, I hope Uncle Jason has a project he needs "help" on. :-)
